What the material published by Fieldnote Press is, what it is not, and where to look instead when the need is urgent.
1. Not professional advice
Everything published on this site is general editorial writing about published research. It is not medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal or financial advice. Fieldnote Press is not a healthcare provider, a mental health service or a counselling practice, employs no clinicians, and holds no professional licence in any jurisdiction. Reading this site creates no clinician–patient, counsellor–client or professional relationship of any kind.
Decisions about health, treatment, medication or personal circumstances are matters for a qualified professional who is able to consider an individual case. Nothing here is written with knowledge of any individual case, and nothing here should be used to delay or replace consultation with such a professional.
2. Urgent situations
This site is not a crisis service and its inbox is not monitored continuously. Where a situation is urgent or a life may be at risk, emergency services are the correct route.
Emergency and crisis numbers differ by country. In the United States and Canada, 988 reaches the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Samaritans can be reached on 116 123 at any hour. In Australia, Lifeline operates on 13 11 14. Elsewhere, the local emergency number or a national crisis line listed by the relevant health authority is the appropriate contact. The International Association for Suicide Prevention publishes a directory of crisis centres by country.
3. No warranty of accuracy or completeness
Summaries are written with care from published sources, but research moves and errors occur. No warranty is given that any note is complete, current or free of error. Where a paper is later retracted, corrected or contradicted by subsequent work, the note may not yet reflect that. Anyone relying on a finding for a consequential decision should read the underlying paper, which is named in every source list.
4. No claim of results
No outcome is promised, claimed, implied or measured anywhere on this site. Material is not described as a method, system, formula, protocol or sequence of steps that produces a result, because it is none of those things. It is written summary and commentary.
5. No testimonials
Fieldnote Press publishes no testimonials, reviews, endorsements, success stories or before-and-after accounts of any kind, on this site or in its advertising, and does not accept them for publication. Any such content presented elsewhere as coming from this publisher is not authorised.
6. Nothing is presumed about the reader
Editorial copy is written in the third person and describes published research. It makes no statement, question or implication about any reader's relationship, circumstances, health, history or state of mind, and it is identical for every visitor. Where a research finding describes a pattern observed in a study sample, that description applies to the sample studied and to nobody in particular.
7. External links
Links to journals, publishers and other sites are provided for reference. Their content is not controlled by this publisher and inclusion of a link is not an endorsement.
8. Age
This site is intended for people aged 18 and over.
